Earnest Money Deposits

When two parties enter into a real estate contract or purchase agreement, they may choose to agree upon an amount for the earnest deposit (sometimes referred to as the "initial" deposit or the "good faith" deposit). When a buyer puts down an earnest deposit, it shows the seller that they are serious and are making the offer in good faith. In most cases, the title company holds this deposit in an escrow account and the amount will go towards the buyer's closing costs.
